canvas painting "GHOST TRAIN" by Christine Ross
GHOST TRAIN
The train pulled from the station
And journeyed on its way
To a time when life was simple...
Way back to yesterday.
I thought of those that traveled
On this train so long ago
And all the stories hidden here,
Just waiting to be told.
Could souls of those from yesteryear
Wander quietly through the aisles,
Reliving all those days gone by,
Staying just a little while?
I heard the click upon the tracks,
Still the same through endless years.
Could breathless children's laughter
Be silent to my ears?
I saw the old conductor
Dressed the same as way back when,
Or was he just the spirit of
Someone's long lost friend?
I felt the wind upon my face
Of this moment in my grasp,
Or was it just a distant touch
Reaching out from the past?
I took a sip of cocoa,
And felt the warmth upon my lips,
Or was it just the faded taste
Of a long forgotten kiss?
I caught the scent of pine trees
From the beauty of the land,
Wondered who had come before me,
Then I felt a tap upon my hand.
As I turned to see who it was,
I said..."I must have closed my eyes."
I found that I was all alone,
Much to my surprise.
Another story hidden here,
And I know it might sound strange...
But today I traveled back in time
Aboard this ghostly train.
