FADED PHOTOGRAPHS
(timeless version)

This found and faded photograph
From a time that is no more.
This found and faded memory
From so many years before.

Old photographs of someone,
Of children come and gone.
Old photographs of yesterday,
And those that once belonged.

Fond memories are captured
In photographs from long ago.
Fond memories are cherished
By a lifetime once bestowed.

Someone held this faded memory
Before their last journey began.
Someone held this faded photograph
You now hold within our hand.

A CANDLE FLICKERS L01

A CANDLE FLICKERS

A candle flickers through the night
With a gentle peaceful glow,
As shadows dance upon the wall
And memories begin to flow.

Yesterday was full of sunshine
That somehow slipped away.
And all of those tomorrows
Illuminate another day.

But today there is a candle
That will flicker through the night
And shine upon a broken heart
With a peaceful angel light.

THE COWBOY'S LAST REQUEST L03

THE COWBOY'S LAST REQUEST

He rode beyond the mountains
On his horse towards the west.
He bowed his head in reverence
As he made his last request.....

"Let this wrangler's voice be heard
In the canyon winds that sing,
And let this cowpoke's spirit soar
On the tips of eagle's wings."

"And in the sun and in the moon
And in the prairie's starlight glow,
Let my light forever shine
Casting shadows of hope below."

"Let this bronco-buster's hat
Be my halo when I die,
While the boots on this ghost rider
Walk across the clouds on high."

"Round-up the ones who rode with me,
And the little buckaroos.
Help them all to understand
That this cowboy's ride is through."

"Please grant this last request of mine
As I quietly ride away,
Kicking up dust along the trail
To that place where I will stay."

.....Then he rode beyond the sunset,
His silhouette against the sky.
He tipped his hat and nodded
As he said his last goodbye.

THE OLD, OLD BIBLE L04

THE OLD, OLD BIBLE

I found an old, old Bible
From two hundred years ago.
I read those old familiar words
From a time I didn't know.

Pressed between the pages
Was a lock of auburn hair
And a rose from some occasion
Of happy times or of despair.

Notes and prayers were tucked away,
With clipped ads for things to buy.
A page handwritten carefully
Of family members that had died.

Did some mother's trembling hands
Write a name upon this page
As teardrops trickled from her eyes
And left these stains time can't erase?

Or did a father write the name
Of his brave and only son
Who died in a distant battlefield
For some freedom we have won?

Did a mother die in childbirth
Or did a father die from plague?
I guess some family members
Died simply from old age.

The names were scrolled with pen and ink,
Perhaps by candlelight,
While heavy hearts... reminisced
Of days, and years, and life.

I read the Bible scriptures
And I wrote a little prayer
For their family and for mine,
For the pain we somehow share.

I cut a lock of my own hair
And I clipped an ad or two.
I placed them in the bible,
Right in the book of Luke.

I held a sacred flower
From the funeral of my son,
Placed it between the pages
With a note of what I'd done.

So I'll keep this old, old Bible
And I'll write my family's names,
And in two hundred years from now
Someone else can do the same.

A DREAM OF ANGELS (male version) L05

A DREAM OF ANGELS
(male version)

I had a dream of angels,
Of feathers and clouds on high.
I traveled up to heaven
Through the clear blue crystal sky.

I saw him standing at the gate
With white feathery angel wings.
He smiled at me and nodded.
Then the clouds began to sing.

The light that glowed behind him
Came from a sacred special place.
His halo gathered in the light
And it glowed upon his face.

My heart was filled with so much joy
That can never be described.
As he reached out and took my hand
I said, "I guess I must have died."

He smiled but then he shook his head,
"No, it's just a glimpse of where I live.
It's not your time, you must go back
Please accept this gift I give."

He held me closely in his arms
And we flew off through the air.
He lay my head upon a pillow
And he gently stroked my hair.

He placed a kiss upon my forehead
And told me always to believe.
Then tears began to fill my eyes
Because I had to watch him leave.

Then I awoke and realized
I wasn't dreaming like before,
And right there on my pillow
Was the proof that it was more.

I reached out to touch the proof,
Knowing we had been together.
For there upon my pillow was.....
A lone white angel feather.

A BIRTHDAY UP IN HEAVEN L07

*A BIRTHDAY UP IN HEAVEN

A birthday up in heaven....
Imagine all the joy it brings
To blow out all your candles
And not wish for anything.

To hear the angels sing to you
A happy birthday song.
To know that everything is right
And nothing ever will be wrong.

To eat as much cake as you want
And not count the calories.
To open up your present...
A big box of memories.

To reach out from above the clouds
Retrieving a balloon.
To see it came from those you love
Knowing they will join you soon.

To realize on your birthday
You won't be counting years.
To smile and laugh and giggle
Never shedding any tears.

To travel down to earth again
As they celebrate your day.
To help them all to understand
You really didn't go away.

To finally have the one you've missed
Come running when you call.
A birthday up in heaven
.....Is waiting for us all.
