When we were living in Louisiana and Luke was a little fellow, he had a friend named Beau. Beau was born on July 31, 1979 and Luke was born on October 31, 1979. Robin (my husband) and I were young adults and Beau's parents were very close to our age. The boys would get together at each other's houses, or for sleep overs, or for birthday parties, or just to play. Those two just loved to pull every single toy out of the toy box and just sit amongst the mess.

In 1979, the year that both Beau and Luke were born, the TV show 'Duke's of Hazzard' was also born. In the show there were these two young men named Bo and Luke who drove around on dusty roads in a big orange car. In the show Bo had blonde hair and Luke had brown hair, just like our Beau and Luke. The car was orange and black, which was perfect because Luke was born on Halloween.

Well, of course Beau and Luke fell in love with the show. When that show came on the TV and they heard it playing they would drop their toys and come running from Luke's room all excited. Luke would be screaming "Du of Hayard", because he couldn't quite pronounce 'Dukes of Hazzard' and Beau would be yelling "Yee Haa". They were glued to the TV the entire hour watching that big orange car jump across creeks and over hills as the theme song 'The Good Ol' Boys' played in the background.

Years passed and Beau and Luke grew apart but they would always have that 'Duke's of Hazzard' connection. We moved to Arizona and 8 years later, Luke died alone in his room at the age of 21 from Acute Broncopneumonia in the year 01. We were devastated. Less than a year after Luke died we went to visit Louisiana and I saw Diane, Beau's mom. She hugged me as I cried on her shoulder and she told me how sorry she was.

Then the next year I received a call saying that Beau was going into surgery for a brain aneurysm. Beau (age 23) did not survive the surgery. The Good Ol' Boys were together once again.

When I saw Diane just before Beau's service, she cried on my shoulder as I told her how sorry I was. She just kept saying over and over...."I didn't know how much it hurt". The sound of us two grieving mothers crying and moaning as we held each other is a sound that will haunt me forever. It was so difficult during Beau's service because this was the first death since Luke had died a year and a half ago and it was the death of Luke's 'Good Ol' Boy'.

I believe that Beau and Luke are in Heaven riding around in that big orange car, making all the twists and turns of that long dusty road. As the wheels left the ground all those years ago and landed over on the other side I could faintly hear them saying "yee haa". One day we will meet them at the end of that long dusty road, they will be waiting, and smiling and running to greet us, so that we too can ride in that big orange car and cross to the other side with 'The Duke's of Heaven'.

I still watch the Duke's of Hazzard and listen as they say the names Bo and Luke. The number on the big orange car is 01 and I can't help but think how it relats to Luke's death because Luke died in the year 01. My heart just can't comprehend that the 'Good Ol' Boys' are gone.

I think about the 'Good ol' Boys' in Heaven and know they are the same wonderful young men that they were here on earth. Like the theme song for 'The Duke's of Hazzard' states.... "The Good Ol' Boys, wouldn't change if they could."

Where did all the children go?.....
Those that slept so quiet and sweet
Rocking them throughout the night
Hoping they would never leave.

Where did all the children go?.....
The ones that used to run and play,
Walking hand and hand together

Making memories everyday.
Where did all the children go?.....
Those that off to school would fly.
We kissed their little forehead's
As they waved and said good bye.

Where did all the children go?.....
They talked for hours on the phone.
We waited up long nights for them
Wondering if they'd soon be home.

Where did all the children go?
With their laughter that resonates
Within our hearts and in our minds
How we wish they could have stayed.

Where did all the children go?..
With those smiles of simple trust
That made us feel like ten feet tall
Before childhood faded to dust.

Where did all the children go?...
Their eyes reflect upon our souls
We gaze upon the past because
They died without growing old.

"Forever Young" is the second single released by Rod Stewart from his Out of Order album in 1988. The song was a Top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #12.

The structure of the lyrics in this song is very similar to a Bob Dylan song of the same title. When this was realized, the song was then sent to Dylan, out of respect, asking whether he had a problem with it. The two men agreed to participate in the ownership of the song and share Stewart's royalties.

Stewart wrote the song with two of his band members: guitarist Jim Cregan and keyboardist Kevin Savigar. Stewart told Mojo magazine in 1995 that he considered "Forever Young" to be one of his favorite songs and the reason for writing it was, "I love 'Forever Young', because that was a real heartfelt song about my kids. I suddenly realized I'd missed a good five years of Sean and Kimberly's life because I was so busy touring all the time. With these kids now I don't make that mistake- I take them on tour with me, so I can watch them grow up.

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road that you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud, dignified and true
And do unto others as you'd have done to you

Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to Heaven
With a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young, yeah

And when you finally fly away
I'll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
For, forever young, forever young

I would like to honor my son Matthew Mullis who was born July 5th 1987, this year my 19 year old baby would be turning 27 years old. He lost his life November 11th 2006 just two short miles from home from injuries he sustained from a single car accident. It was my darkest moment in life. I am still to this day recovering from what I now know to be the worst day of my life. Matthew was my baby he and his sister are sever years apart in age. His death has brought me much sadness and living is still at times a great struggle. I miss his smiling silly self in every way imaginable. His life brought me much joy and happiness and I have tried to allow those memories to replace the tears that I cry. Every year on Matthew's birthday since he has been gone my family and I meet at the cemetery where my mom leads us in a prayer, followed by the release of balloons. Last year a group of his friends asked to have a celebration of Matthew's life at our house by the pool. It was the most beautiful party I think I've ever witnessed they brought music and they just didn't what young people do they laughed shared pictures, told stories danced and swam to 2am in the morning and then they all piled into his room and stayed the night. See Matthew lost his life at 2 am it was a Friday night he was returning home from the waffle house where he had went to meet his friends and eat. I never heard him leave the house, I wasn't given the chance to stop him. I would give all days of my life to have one more moment with him.

Happy Birthday Baby,

I love you,

Why did you leave your family & friends so dear?
We only had you until your 17th year!
Please, our precious boy, rest in peace
Our love for you will never cease
For all we can do is wait until then....

It's a horrible pain for a parent to have to bury a child, my son was 28 years and killed on his way home, actually 3 miles from home, he was a mama's boy, and to make matters worse it was the day after Christmas. He was a very hard worker would do anything to help a friend, he loved his brother and that is the one time he would fight you is if you did something to his brother. Dennis Jr. could not walk in the house without pinching me, pulling my hair or touching me in some type of way. He loved to go fishing with his dad or even working out in the yard with his dad. When Dennis Sr. and I got married we planned the home with the picket fence and 2 children because that is what we knew we could provide well for, our son's were 22 months apart but no where in the picture do you plan for the loss of a child. I wish someone could come up with a magic potion that makes this pain easier for a parent in the loss of a child. Not knowing the butterfly is a symbol for the loss of a child I had a tattoo put on my leg of wings with a halo and above it says I have earned my wings, I guess one of these days we will understand.........Why?

for our Lord Jesus Christ.
Praise God.
You went to heaven
as a soldier in God's army.
Now a warrior in Jesus army

Bittersweet life is for me
I praise God for His wisdom
of allowing me to be an instrument

15 years you have been in the presence
of our Lord Jesus.
How wonderful it must be.
A piece of my heart is aching where you reside.
I will miss you all the days of my life.
I praise His holy Name that you were such
an inspiration for me and so many more.
The tears I shed are my solace sometimes
Bittersweet are my tears.

It seems like a thousand years.

Amanda has sent me so many signs. (SHE STILL does to this day) at first, many I had dismissed, or over looked. Because I didn't know what to look for, yet they were all around me. She's sent them from the very beginning. Looking back now I can see so many. Right before the police came to my door to give me the news of my daughter, I was walking up the steps, and I felt someone in front of me, waving their arms around, almost distracting me, I felt frustrated, as if I couldn't move around it.. and I wind up going into my daughters room, but couldn't remember why I went in there, when actually I was headed to my room...So aggravated I walked back down stairs, and that's when someone knocked at my door. It was the police with Amanda's purse, and to inform me of my loss. (Horrible day,and memory). Now I know it was Amanda trying to prepare me for what I was about to experience...SHE KNEW it was going to break my heart...SHE KNEW!! WE LOVED each other so much!!! I felt her trying so hard to get my attention, but couldn't. SHE tried so hard.

I was in physical therapy for a possible torn rotator cuff. In therapy one of the exercises I had to do was unusually hard and hurt my shoulder quite a bit. When we moved to an exercise holding a stick behind my back and raised it up behind me as far as I can, just putting my arm behind my back brought tears to my eyes determined not to let Joshua ( my therapist ) see the tears I tried to do them... but closed my eyes and said to myself oh Josh mama can't do this it hurt's so bad please help me.......just then this song came on the radio ....... it is Racal Flatts called It's Like A Storm...

No one will ever convince me that in that single moment that I asked Josh my son to help me and this song this particular song begins to play it is not from my son......... The highlighted parts connect so well with the struggle in therapy and what was happening at the moment I asked Josh to help me ....hiding my tears and pain...saying Josh this hurts so bad I cant do this....... it is all right there.... it is my son.....our children will never leave us our angels will guide us and protect for ever till we are once again reunited in God's holy house.......... just so you know yes I was able to the do exercise and the pain subsided and I even raised the stick higher then I had been able to before.I finished the hour with limited pain......

Racal Flatts ... It's Like A Storm

It's like a storm
That cuts a path
It's breaks your will
It feels like that

You think your lost
But your not lost on your own
Your not alone
I will stand by you
I will help you through
When you've done all you can do
If you can't cope
I will dry your eyes
I will fight your fight
I will hold you tight
And I wont let go

It hurts my heart
To see you cry
I know it's dark
This part of life
Oh it finds us all
And we're too small
To stop the rain
Oh but when it rains

I will stand by you
I will help you through
When you've done all you can do
And you can't cope
I will dry your eyes
I will fight your fight
I will hold you tight

And I wont let you fall
Don't be afraid to fall
I'm right here to catch you
I wont let you down
It wont get you down
Your gonna make it
Yea I know you can make it

Cause I will stand by you
I will help you through
When you've done all you can do
And you can't cope
And I will dry your eyes
I will fight your fight
I will hold you tight
And I wont let go
Oh I'm gonna hold you
And I wont let go
Wont let you go
No I wont

When I put my children to bed at night I always read to them. I taught them to sing songs also. One Denise and I sang every night when she was about 2 or less, was... You Are My Mom sang it to me and also together. Denise couldn't say Grey right and every time we came to that part she would sing.....You make me happy when skies are 'krey'. :) I always let her sing that part alone because I loved to hear her say it. She poured her little self right into singing. She always stood in front of the music stand we had and would sing and dance. I am so happy I taught her because she enjoyed that so much. And of course our story time together was such fun also. I am so happy I have my memories to keep me going. Miss you so much my little Angel. Love you with all my heart. Mommy.

When Sean got his motorcycle license and bought that fast, Yamaha crotch rocket, it gave me even more gray hair! He always called his dad's bike "an old man bike". This, of course, was another project for Sean to customize! He did a total "make over" on this bike. Sean could see in his head what he wanted the bike to look like. He always wanted to build his own bike and this was probably as close he was to come to doing so. I worried hard with him riding the bike, as he would ride it so often after dark and there was always the concern of a deer, dog or some animal coming in front of the bike where one could lose control so easily.

The big "craze" when Sean was a little boy was Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, etc. At one time, the Ninja Turtles had a "concert" in Rochester, so we had taken him to the live Ninja Turtles show. He loved watching Raphael, Leonardo, Michaegalo and Donatello perform on stage and had all their movies. He would always have to dress up in full garb when he played the character. He probably had most of the Ninja Turtles and accessories that were on the market then. Also, he loved his Ghostbusters and hereto, had to dress when playing with Ghostbusters including his Ghostbuster coveralls and other accessories. He loved doing this so much that Rick built him a playhouse with a ladder and pole to slide down. He had so much fun pretending to be a Ghostbuster and sliding down the pole to go on a "call". Sean had such a great imagination, which is good since he didn't have siblings when he grew up. Rick would always get after to me as every time we went shopping, I would always buy Sean a new Turtle or Ghostbuster figurine. Yes, his mommy just couldn't say no to her little boy. A scary thing that Rick did for him when he was maybe 8 or 10, was installing the cable from the top of the shed that went way across our yard. It had a handle on rollers where Sean could hang onto and slide on the cable from the roof across the yard. Even as a youngster he was a dare devil, but it scared the heck out of me watching him descend from the top of the shed and go across the yard, hanging onto this handle sliding across the cable!
